Objective Critique

When I view this piece I feel a lack of  imagination. To me this painting lacks balance and an exciting expression of imagination that matches it's source material. This work by  Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, better known as Guercino II is a "Baroque" oil painting that uses primary colors, basic human anatomy to express the story of Atlas holding a celestial sphere. The piece is anatomically correct to match the scale of a human. To imply the being in the piece is a "Titan" Guercino under uses the space not providing enough Emphasis on Atlas and the scale of the task he is enduring. The globe lacks color and life, it uses random astrological symbols. The forms used bring Unity to seen in the look of Atlas face as he bears the burden of a huge sphere resting oh his shoulders. He uses color to create shape and texture. The viewer’s attraction is captured by a relatable human form of Atlas carrying the large sphere as depicted by Guercino.
