Subjective Critique

My first look at this piece and I felt a lack of imagination. To me this painting provides limited mental stimulation. The painter displayed great skill, with the shapes to capture a true human form, yet I do not feel it captures the image of a world carrying Titan god. The background colors are dull to me, they subtract interest from the overall image. The anatomy of Atlas is limited to being simply human, I do not feel I am witnessing a Celestial Titan who is holding the world. The Globe is a perfectly round and boring dark sphere. If I could change this piece to make it better, I will use more shapes in the form of Gaea inside the celestial sphere that Atlas is holding. I will also add in a detailed atmosphere through color with shades of blues, greys and whites. I would like to enhance the mood of the painting, by adding a different variety of texture to Atlas and his garments. I feel that these changes will bring out a more lively and imaginative reception to the story of Atlas being the dethroned king of the Titans condemned to carry his mother Gaea in a sphere to keep her from being united with his father Uranus so that they may never wage war against the Greek gods again.
